Save for a few boxes I'm done! I'm done!

This is the first Christmas Eve I can relax and have fun!
My children are older. It's harder to do...
To wrap in secret while they haven't a clue!
They're nosy and curious and can't wait to see
Just how many presents await under the tree!
My hiding places are few
In this house small and new.
But this year I was smart
I had it down to an art -
It's called planning and budgeting -
It's a great place to start!
Whenever I could -
I did what I should.
A box here and there,
Plenty of time to spare!
The paper's all hidden - the ribbons are too,
As are the boxes all shiny and new.
I have just one thing to figure out -
To get the presents under our tree
Without them knowing they were put there by me!
The children are older and won't settle down -
They are older and wiser but still want to see
Santa, his presents and our brightly lit tree!
They'll wait up all night - This much I know.
I know, because they say it is so!
Tonight I will be asleep long before they,
While they dance and they sing, I'll be hitting the hay!

In the wee morning hours, before it's too bright,
I'll sneak in their rooms and tuck them in tight.
I'll take out each package, and with care and with glee
Quietly I'll tiptoe and carry each one
I won't take a break, won't stop til I'm done!

Then, carefully, quietly, I'll crawl back into bed,
Warm coffee in hand, eager for what will soon lie ahead!
