Ga Ga for Gingham

Gingham is another one of those fabrics that remind me of summertime much the way that seersucker does. It's role in fashion and home decor has been popular since the 1950s. It was in the forefront of 1960s fashion when such stylish icons as Jacqueline Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn were photographed often wearing this crisp plaid fabric.

Here gingham slipcovers add some pattern and texture to the dining room and complement the pattern on the walls.

Although hard to see, the longer table cloth is a black and white gingham. This was my dining room in our house before we moved 2 years ago. It's sort of has that French country charm to it. I had the table cloths made. (My mother in law actually made them and the cushions on the chairs. Aren't they fabulous!) The shorter table cloth is a Laura Ashley toile and I believe trimmed in a Waverly ticking. The cushions are reversible. The ticking is on one side and the toile is on the other. Perfect for my split personality! Yes those are my bamboo folding chairs that also served as my dining chairs back then! The photo on the far wall is of the villa in Umbria. The last of her grand home renovations.
