Happy Memorial Day!

Today marks the official start of the Summer Season! Pools and beaches open to the public. The scent of suntan lotion, chlorine and salt waft through the air. Sandy feet leave tracks through your home much like Hansel and Gretel left their trail of crumbs. The laundry load grows even bigger (if that is at all possible) and heavy blankets make way for plush terry towels. Marshmallows are roasting, the peepers are singing, crickets chirping and bees are buzzing. The sun goes down way past my bedtime and the kids truly learn what fun and exhaustion feels like. For those of us in New England today marks the day where it becomes officially acceptable to wear white. The kids have traded in their Uggs for flip flops. Hot cocoa makes way for lemonade and sun tea. The kids look forward to endless days of ice cream cones and Popsicles while I look forward to a nice siesta in my hammock beneath the large oak trees...

As school draws to a close with just two weeks to go I am busily preparing our summer days ahead... a couple of camps scattered here and there, trips to Newport to see Moo, Popsy and the rest of my family and the highlight of our summer, our two week vacation in Southern, Coastal Maine. In between we'll plan little road trips and field experiences. We'll lounge on the beach and swim in the salty surf and bask in the sun's glorious rays. We'll not worry about rushing off here and there and homework and tests and deadlines. We'll have barbecues and parties. We'll invite our friends over to play with the grand new water slide Daddy picked up at Tarjay yesterday! And when the kids are tired from too much fun I'll come out with some ice cream cones.

and if that wasn't enough we also got this...
Ah, yes! It will be a fun summer... I sure hope the kids aren't so tired that they fall asleep before the fireflies come out. Meanwhile, I'll be relaxing with a delightful cocktail... I do so enjoy the lazy, hazy days of summer!

Of course we'll bask in the sun and celebrations, but first we'll take a moment to remember what this day is really all about... we'll say a silent prayer for the fighting and fallen soldiers who gave up their everything to serve this proud Nation... To you all and your families... thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And since it's 5:00 somewhere... Cheers Everyone and have a wonderful day!
