We're having a Heat Day; It's like a Snow Day but Opposite!

Ugh. It's hot out. It's humid. It's oppressive. It's downright nasty. It's too hot to be outdoors. Even poolside. Even at the beach. It's a day to be inside... at the movies, or a museum... a perfect day to peruse your favorite bookstore and sit down to pour over a few pages with an icy cold iced tea... It's not very pleasant here in New England. In fact, it's downright miserable. We're laying low. We're having a Heat Day, it's like a Snow Day but opposite! We're hunkering down... We're watching movies and reading books and making collages and bead necklaces and playing with Play Doh. We're making ice cream and eating it... We're walking around in as little as possible...The air conditioners are blasting... The grass is turning a straw-like color. I need to get a sprinkler... Maybe this evening the kids can be outside and run through it... But a storm is headed our way! Heavy rains. Massive downpour. I love the smell of the rain as it hits the pavement after a heatwave... I love the sound of the cool, wet rain as it hits the pavement and sizzles! Maybe we'll run out and dance in the rain... I used to love that as a child... Dancing in the rain was such fun. We'd get wet, drenched, soaked and come inside and dry off, happy that cooler, fresher air was now upon us. We're still hours away from that relief. About 12 hours... We'll wait patiently. We'll keep busy but we may check our watches from time to time to see how much longer before our rain and relief will be arriving...
