Update from The Entertaining House: It's been a good year so far!

We bid farewell to the old and rang in the New Year as a family. While 2009 saw lots of happiness, it was not without its challenges. I am eager and excited for this New Year. I have great expectations. Yes, I will set my sights high. I will not let myself be disappointed. As I mentioned in my resolutions, I aim for betterment and self improvement.

I am slowly regaining strength and mobility in my arm. I am quite amazed that I am healing so well and so quickly. I never thought, last Monday, as I endured shoulder X-rays, as they moved my arm in ways that it ought not to have been at that point, that I would ever have full mobility again. As I met with my doctor, as he prescribed physical therapy not just once, but three times a week for 4 to 6 weeks before re-evaluating me I thought I would be having to cut my hair short and months away from doing what I love best in the kitchen. I was told not to move my arms out of my peripheral vision as my chances of the shoulder dislocating again are now significant. I was told I would most likely never serve a game of tennis again. Either my extension would not allow me, or my shoulder could dislocate.

Every day I have been working at extending my arm a little more. (This is what they do in PT as well.) And every day I get a little more limber and a little stronger. Yesterday I amazed myself when I carefully stretched my arm over my head. Easy does it... not too quickly. Boy that stretch felt good! But certain movements are still painful and raise a question mark. My hand is noticeably weaker. And yesterday as I was slicing carrots I noticed an odd pain running down my arm. We are keeping our eyes open for this... a possible trapped nerve or something. I shudder to think of how that would be remedied...

But things are good and I spent the entire weekend in the kitchen cooking and preparing food for my family, doing what I love the most! So nice to be able to cook at one's leisure without the constraint of time and rushing to do this and that. My recipes, for the most part, are now up at the Entertaining Kitchen.

We've had a good bit of snow this weekend and the temperatures are cold. A quiet, calm and completely restful weekend together is exactly what we needed. When not playing with the children and cooking, I have been able to luxuriate in long hot baths with a good book and a glass of Champagne. Ok, many glasses of Champagne!

The children have played well together, with bickering kept to a minimum. The boys have slept in.

If I could describe a perfect weekend, this one would fit the bill!

We're all back to the grind tomorrow. The children have school and my husband has a mess at work to try to fix. (Not his doing, of course!)

And I have to tidy up the mess caused by 5 people living under one roof for 2 weeks! The cleaning crew come early in the week and boy do I have a lot to do before they come!

Stay tuned... In the days to come as there are going to be some fun and interesting things here at The Entertaining House! I will have more tales of my youth in France, my years in England and growing up in Manhattan. I will have more decorating, entertaining and craft ideas. I will have posts on betterment, and etiquette written by some of your favorite bloggers. And of course, I will continue to humor you with the antics that happen here at home, with the Entertaining Kids!

Happy New Year All!

XOXO
