Stylish Notes on Decor :: Rooms with a View announces its theme for 2013

via Southport Congregational Church

On Wednesday, October 2 nd, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend an intimate meet and greet to launch this year’s Rooms with a View. This event, now chaired by Thom Filicia, was the brainchild of the legendary Albert Hadley who sought to create a fundraiser for his local church to help those in need. What started as a little design show has grown exponentially over the years and now has caught the attention of major national shelter magazines, including the likes of Architectural Digest. Each year 12 designers magically transform the church into 12 wondrous miniature showrooms.

I was both honored and delighted when I was asked to be a major blogger to cover Rooms With a View. Southport Congregational Church is not only in my backyard, but many of the charities supported help underprivileged children and families in surrounding towns. I'm thrilled to be part of something so wonderful that helps my own community.

Thom Filicia announced that this year’s theme will be “Americanism.” This term, he revealed, was created as a means of taking the idea of the Americana lifestyle and making it fresh and new. "Americanism" celebrates both timely American design as well as timeless American design, thus merging the new and the old together.  The theme fits particularly well given that this event takes place in Connecticut, which Filicia believes is timely and forward as well as timeless. He also describes the small state as “an iconic American/New England design environment.”  Each designer’s space will be reflective of this new “Americanism.”

This year’s talented team includes Thom Felicia with Sedgewick & Brattle and Thom Filicia Inc., Steven Gambrel with SR Gambrel Inc., Bryant Keller with Bryant Keller Interiors, Sara Gilbane of Sara Gilbane Interiors, Saranda Berisa with Wadia Associates, Nancy Corbett of Corbett Wright,  Tiffany Eastman with Tiffany Eastman Interiors, Casey Karlan with LAST DETAIL Interior Design, Carolyn Kron and Trisha Izzo with Shelter Interiors, Francine Murnane with Francine Murnane Interior Design, Claudia (Chickie) Ruger and Amy Ruger Whitely with Ruger, Lynne Scalo with Lynne Scalo Design and Tory Vought.

We are looking forward to seeing what these amazingly talented individuals will come up with this year!
