A Diva Den so Divine!

Inspired by Interior Designer Jennifer Duchene's (@jenniferduchene) Diva Den, a named now hashtagged all over Twitter by Social Media Guru Leslie Caruthers (@tkpleslie) after a discussion the two women had last Saturday night. (I think I was out dancing the night away at a fundraiser for my children's school of the theme Denim, Diamonds & Disco which itself is worthy of a post!) I hopped over to Jennifer's blog to read about her own Diva Den. I was immediately inspired!

In fact, I have been dreaming of my own Diva Den for years. Soon I will recreate it. It will be based, in part, on my current and past bedroom. My bedroom is my heaven, my haven. My place to seek solace and quiet in a home with three loud children. It is where I go to relax, reflect and create. My Diva Den will allow for the same.

First I'll need some color. I am a color girl.

There is not one room in my home, past or present that is devoid of color -- unless you call a hallway a room!

I love blues, especially in the bedroom, for the calming and relaxing benefits. I'll choose a color almost periwinkle in hue as this is most theatrical. The walls will change color from day into night. The almost purple blue walls are dramatic this way. Cool, light and airy in the morning sun, and warm and almost lavender in hue when the day is done.

The trim will be white. A clean white. As will my bed linens. Impractical with children, yes, so I do not spend a fortune on them. But what the heck. I'll buy luxurious white linens with a terrifically high thread count. This is my Dream Diva Den. I will indulge! And there is nothing I love more than crisp white against a wall of color. On the window will be sheers.Feminine but not fussy. I'll not want to block out the light and this will provide me with just enough privacy. (Shades to be pulled down at night.)

The dark cherry of my sleigh bed will be a nice contrast to the light, bright colors.

Perhaps some throw pillows on the bed for a splash of color. I love LuLu DKs blue bamboo print. It's perfect! I have a small love seat in my bedroom that will also be in my Diva Den. Since money (in my dreams!) will be of no object, I'll cover the love seat in the ocean colored bamboo print fabric.

I love wicker and rattan. I'll have some baskets to hold my paper and pens and other writing supplies, articles and clippings. I'll keep these next to the love seat where my laptop and I spend many hours looking out the window together... er, I mean writing!

Because I love natural sunlight, I'll hang a mirror or two across from the windows to make the room even brighter. The mirrors will serve a functional as well as an aesthetic purpose.

And pictures of my children all around to inspire me and make me happy!

And it would not be a Diva Den until my chandelier was securely hung in place!

Because it's my Diva Den, and because you all know me well... I have a lovely antique buffet in the dining room. I'll move it to the bedroom. A perfect place to store a bottle or two of red wine and some wine glasses!

Lastly, some of my books and freshly cut white flowers. As a writer my books are my inspiration and an important part of my landscape. The freshly cut flowers add freshness and life... and smell wonderful!

This Divine Diva Den has everything I need to rest, reflect and write!
